Most of the housing stock here is post-war brick semi-detached, and that means the overwhelming majority of front and back doors are uPVC, with a smaller proportion of composite doors on the newer builds around Longbridge. Both door types use multipoint locking mechanisms, and the most common failure Jason sees is a gearbox or hook bolt that has worn to the point where the door will not lift into the locked position, or will not release at all. On uPVC, the plastic reinforcement inside the frame also degrades over time, which can affect how well the mechanism engages. Anti-snap cylinders matter on this housing because the Euro cylinder fitted as standard to most of these doors is exactly what a snapping attack targets. Upgrading to an ABS Master cylinder closes that vulnerability without touching the door or the frame. The services that come up most often here are uPVC door lock repairs, anti-snap upgrades and emergency callouts after a failed mechanism has left a door unusable.
